Summer Learning Academy
Smyrna High School
2019 Summer Learning Academy

How is the Summer Learning Academy organized?
The Summer Learning Academy (SLA) will be offered online only through Edgenuity. Students will have the option of completing their online course(s) at home or at Smyrna High School in our library computer lab with a certified teacher. If a student chooses to complete the course at home, Edgenuity provides support by a certified 1-on-1 teacher from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Each lesson contains a presentation of learning, a practice assessment (which a student can take up to three times), and a lesson assessment. Throughout each course, there is one formal writing assessment, four required discussion board postings and a final exam. The final exam must be completed at SHS in the computer lab during (or before) the week of July 22nd-25th.

How will I know if I need to take an Online Summer Learning Academy course?
Students will need to score between a 50-59% in a core course (English, Math, Social Studies, Science or World Language) in order to qualify for SLA. Students who qualify for an SLA course will be notified by an automated phone call no later than June 17th. They can also log on to Home Access Center to view final grades. As in the past, students can only enroll in two SLA courses. If you have questions about which courses to enroll in, contact the School Counseling Office at (302) 653-3133.

What is the cost for the online courses?
Each course offered for the Online SLA costs $100. This fee is to be paid through our online portal, not Smyrna High School. A link to this payment portal can be found on the SHS website. There are discounts for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Students who qualify for the reduced cost should contact the Child Nutrition Office at 653-3134.

How do I register for the course(s) I need?
Students will register online through Active Networks (Summer Learning Academy link on the Smyrna High School Website). After you register, the school counselors will enroll you in the course(s) with Edgenuity, and you will receive your login information at the orientation. Registration begins on May 30th, 2019. Students should register by June 20th so that they can attend the orientation training on June 24th at SHS.
